Madison, WI - Irwin A. Goodman & Robert D. Goodman Community Swimming Pool at Goodman Park
Water Technology, Inc. (WTI) began working with the City of Madison in 2004 for their first outdoor municipal swimming pool. The City received a $2.5 million donation from Robert and Irwin Goodman for the design and construction of the pool and is currently in the process of raising more money through contributions and corporate sponsorships.
Several key issues in this project include a site location plan that would place the pool in the most accessible place for all of the City’s neighborhoods. WTI and the Ad Hoc Pool Committee studied nine sites for feasibility of location, parking, transportation and technical aspects of all sites. A referendum passed in November to allow one of the water front sites to be considered.
The committee and WTI have completed the programming and conceptual design stage in which the team prioritized goals and project objectives, established bather load and amenities for the pool. The final conceptual design is featured here.
Upon completion of the first phase the City was required to reissue a request for proposals from consultants and re-interview firms. Water Technology was subsequently selected to complete the second design phase of the project by the City of Madison. The Goodman Donation required a ground breaking by July 1, 2005; Water Technology remained on schedule and within budget to adhere to these requirements.
